About the Associates

USA Associates of the

Sisters of the Assumption

Wherever the Associates live and work, we strive to extend the mission of the

Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin

to reveal God's love to all, and

embody their charism of trust in Divine Providence.

Lay associates of religious congregations have existed in one form or another since the first century. There was a strong resurgence of this movement in the 20th century. The associates of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin officially began in 1983.

As lay associates, we are women and men who have accepted the invitation of the Sisters of the Assumption to join their family. While remaining in our single or married lifestyles, we share with the sisters their traditions, spirituality, and ecclesial mission. The Sisters journey with us as we meet monthly for prayer, faith-sharing on the word of God, and meaningful conversations. Wherever the associates live and work, we extend the Sisters' mission to reveal God's love to all, and

embody their charism of trust in Divine Providence.

In the United States there are close to 100 associates meeting monthly in the following locations: Skowhegan, Maine; Meriden, Connecticut; and Chicopee, Southbridge, Leominster, Brockton, Millbury, Salem, and Lowell, Massachusetts. There are well over 100 more associates in Quebec and Ontario, Canada, Japan, Ecuador, and Brazil.
